Cut designs bigger than your mat

Off The Mat is a free online tool for cutting large SVG designs on a Cricut or Silhouette. Upload a layered SVG, type the finished size you want, and pick your mat. The tool splits the design into pieces that each fit your machine's cut area, keeping every layer and color. Large backgrounds get sliced along straight lines, while small shapes that happen to sit on a cut line move whole onto their own parts sheets, so you never have to glue half a flower back together. Everything runs in your browser and your file never leaves your device.

How the pieces go back together

Each piece is cut at true size and butts edge to edge with its neighbors. There is no overlap and no registration marks, so you line the pieces up by eye on your backing or wall. Piece names like R1C2 tell you the row and column, and the combined SVG lays every piece out in that order.

Frequently asked questions

Which cutting machines does this work with?

Any machine that imports SVG files. The mat list includes Cricut Maker, Explore, Venture, Joy and Joy Xtra mats, plus Silhouette Cameo, Cameo Plus, Cameo Pro, Portrait and Curio mats. You can also type a custom cut area for any other machine.

Will the pieces import at the right size?

Yes. Files are written at 72 units per inch, which is what Cricut Design Space expects, so each piece opens at the exact size shown in the preview. In Silhouette Studio, check that SVG import scaling is set to keep the original size.

Should I download the combined SVG or the ZIP?

The combined SVG puts every piece in one file, which is quickest if you upload once and then hide pieces as you cut them. The ZIP gives you one SVG per piece, which is easier if you cut each mat as its own project.

Why is some of my text not splitting?

Live text in an SVG isn't a shape yet. Convert your text to outlines (sometimes called create outlines or object to path) in your design app, then upload the file again.
